Mode of action and benefits
Zinc foliar fertilisers are specially developed for application to the leaves. Zinc (Zn) is an essential trace element for plants, necessary for various processes in plant metabolism. A deficiency of this nutrient can lead to various growth problems in plants, such as reduced growth, leaf discolouration and leaf damage. Acute nutrient deficiencies can be quickly counteracted by application to the leaf.
Chelated nutrients improve absorption and plant availability for optimal nutrient uptake.
The application of the zinc leaf fertiliser can be combined with other foliar fertilisers and compost tea.
The chelation
A chelate is a chemical compound in which a metal ion is bound to a larger organic molecule, the chelating agent. This bond forms a complex that is both stable and soluble. The chelating agent usually forms multiple bonds with the metal ion, creating a ring-like structure. This unique structure of the chelate increases the stability and bioavailability of the metal ion and prevents it from precipitating or becoming inaccessible to plants or organisms.
Application and dosage
Crop | Application rate |
---|---|
General | For zinc supply: 2-4 l/ha as foliar fertilisation in at least 200 l water/ha or 5-8 l/ha over the soil. |
Viticulture | Flowering, fruit set, more uniform maturity: 3-4 l/ha when enlarging the clusters over the leaf. |
Pome fruit | Rosette leaf quality, initial development and shoots: 1-2 times 3-4 l/ha at the red bud stage and/or after harvest over the leaf. |
Stone fruit | Initial development, shoots: 3-4 l/ha after harvest over the leaf. |
Strawberries | Flower bud development and winter hardiness: 3-4 l/ha in autumn over the leaf. |
Vegetables | For leaf quality and initial development: 2-4 l/ha at 15 cm growth height over the leaf. |
Corn | Cob filling :1-2 times 2-3 l/ha over the leaf from 4 leaf stage. |
Citrus plants | 0.25-0.5% foliar spray. |
Cereals | For yield increase and grain quality: 2 l/ha from 2 leaf stage over the leaf. |
Hops | Bud & shoot development and quality: 3-5 times with 0.05-0.1% solution over the leaf from 1 m growth height. |
