Description

EM-1 – Effective Microorganisms

Base concentrate for small-scale applications and primarily for the production of EM·A.

EM-1 is the ideal combination of selected, regenerative microorganisms for chemical-free agriculture. It primarily contains lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, and photosynthetic bacteria. It is a brownish liquid with a sweet-sour smell and a pH value of 3.5. All other EM products and applications are derived from EM-1. EM-1 can be activated with sugar cane molasses, water, and heat to produce EM-A.

In EM, various types of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms live together in a balance where some benefit from the metabolic products of others. This perfect symbiosis of EM generates strong regenerative, restorative, and antioxidant powers. With the help of EM, a natural balance of beneficial microorganisms is restored.

With the help of EM technology, nothing is fought or suppressed. Instead, the existing environment is influenced in such a way that restorative, regenerative processes become possible.

Application and Dosage of EM-A

Application rates for EM-A produced from EM-1:

  • Manure additive: 0.5–1 L EM-A per m3 of slurry per year. Mix in at least 3 weeks before spreading the slurry.
  • Composting agent: Mix in 1–2 L EM-A per m3 of compost, divided into several doses when setting up and turning the windrow.
  • Soil conditioner: Apply 150 L EM-A per ha per year, divided into 2–4 doses, diluted 1:20 - 1:50.
  • Garden: Mix 0.1–1% EM-A into the irrigation water once a week.

Additional Information

  • pH value: As soon as the pH value rises above 4, only use Boden-FIT as a manure additive.
  • Storage: Store in a cool (12–18 °C) and dark place. Do not store in the refrigerator.
  • Shelf life: See sticker on the bottle. During use, care must be taken that too much oxygen does not reach the liquid. Therefore, bottles should be resealed airtight quickly after opening. It is possible for whitish flakes to form in the EM-1 liquid. However, this does not affect the quality, as these are only visible deposits of yeast bacteria upon contact with oxygen.
  • Packaging: PET bottle or PET canister; empty packaging can be disposed of with household waste.

Since the range of applications for EM-1 is so large, we recommend informing yourself via the relevant specialist literature. You can also order this via the online shop under the Literature section.

From EM-1, we propagate the EM A starter culture for our herbal ferment. The recipe and what the lactic acid bacteria do in slurry storage are explained in the blog post Make your own slurry additive.
