Mode of action and benefits
Potassium foliar fertilisers are specially developed for application to the leaves. Potassium (K) is an important nutrient for plants, necessary for various processes in plant metabolism. A deficiency of this nutrient can lead to various growth problems in plants, such as reduced growth, lower resistance to stress factors and reduced yield performance. Acute nutrient deficiencies can be quickly counteracted through foliar application.
Chelated nutrients improve absorption and plant availability for optimal nutrient uptake.
The application of potassium leaf fertiliser can be combined with other foliar fertilisers and compost tea.
The chelation
A chelate is a chemical compound in which a metal ion is bound to a larger organic molecule, the chelating agent. This bond forms a complex that is both stable and soluble. The chelating agent usually forms multiple bonds with the metal ion, creating a ring-like structure. This unique structure of the chelate increases the stability and bioavailability of the metal ion and prevents it from precipitating or becoming inaccessible to plants or organisms.
Application and dosage
Crop | Application rate |
---|---|
General | Foliar application: 0.5-1% (0.5-1l/100l water). Soil application: 10-20 l/ha or 1% (1 l per 100 l water) in fertigation. |
Wine grapes | Several applications with 4 l/ha from budbreak as foliar spray. |
Table grapes | For potassium supply, for higher sugar yield: 1 application with 4 l/ha from softening of the berries as foliar spray. |
Pome fruit | Potassium supply, to increase fruit quality and improve red colouring: 2-4 times 4 l/ha between June fruit fall and harvest as foliar spray. |
Potatoes | For potassium supply, to reduce susceptibility to blue/black spot: 3 applications with 4-7 l/ha from tuber set during tuber growth as foliar spray. |
Vegetables | For potassium supply, to improve the quality of the harvested products: several times with 3-4 l/ha from sufficient leaf mass as foliar spray. |
Maize | 4 l/ha as foliar spray (with fungicide treatment). |
Cereals | For yield increase and grain quality: 2 l/ha from 2 leaf stage over the leaf. |
Hops | Bud & shoot development and quality: 3-5 times with 0.05-0.1% solution from 1 m growth height over the leaf. |
